Currently Scavenge is a new mode available for multiplayer. In it you must gather the gas tanks as survivors and the SI must stop you and get the clock to run out. Every gathered gas tank will add time to the clock until all 16 tanks on a map are recovered. Team work is critical and going solo/Rambo will not help your team at all. When you start as survivors take a moment and scan around for all the tank locations where you will see them in white outlines around the map.
Coordinate with your team mates and then nut up as I say with weapons, meds and the likes and head out. Once the safe zone timer runs out or you break the area of safety the clock starts ticking. Grabbing tanks and returning to the generator or car and filling them up gives you more time and counts towards your team's round score. Now an important thing to keep in mind is that when the timer runs out AND someone is holding a tank, this becomes forced overtime. All SI will be looking for you and your team mates need to cover the person who has the tank like white on rice on a white paper plate in a snow storm. When the round ends because of all tanks being gathered, time runs out, or the survivors are all killed both teams switch sides. Here's a few tips to help with each of the SI tactics:
Boomer: You are an easy target, try hiding until a survivor is near the tank to fill up or on their way and puke on them. The swarming horde can slow them down for another SI to roll in or force them to drop the tank. Also a Boomer's death can have knock back effect, if you have no bile available then try throwing yourself at the survivors. Your explosion may cover them AND knock them back/stun them.
Jockey: Try riding people off high ledges, this can cause an immediate incap (might kill you but hey it works). Also watch gas tanks and when someone grabs it, then jockey them since they are weaponless and you will cause them to drop the tank.
Spitter: You are the sniper, spit at the generator so survivors have to stand in acid and take damage, also watch for orange outlined tanks to spit on. These mean a survivor dropped the tank and it is fair game to be blown up.
Charger: Hide around corners and sneak up behind or pop out in front of a survivor, once you go into your charge chances are you will not be stopped by your intended target. Also coming up behind survivors who are filling gas can drop the tank and null/void the collection as you stun them or ground pound them. You can charge through doors so hiding is always a perk and charging through. Also charging from high places and crashing through glass or off say the 3rd story in dead center can be immediate survivor death (and yours as well).
Hunter: Same as a Jockey honestly, watch for someone to grab a tank them pounce them. Or like a Boomer hang out near the generator and pounce them when they start filling.
Smoker: Shoot to make pulls off high ledges where an immediate incap can occur because a person will be hanging in the air. Also keep an eye out for gas can carriers since your tongue will cause a drop.

SCAVENGE MODE
Scavenge Mode is essentially a four versus four Capture the Flag. The only true difference is instead of a flag to find, secure, and place in a specific area, Survivors grab a one of many cans of gasoline and take them to the generator. However, in order to do that, they must break the defenses of the Special-Infected, who are played by the four members of the opposite team.
In the beginning of the match, the Infected have the opportunity to spawn wherever they choose on the map (with some exceptions) until the Survivors leave the spawn area. When the Survivors leave their spawn area, the match begins with 1:30 on the clock. Each fuel can poured into the generator buys the Survivors 20 seconds extra to find the next can. The match ends when the timer runs out or all the gas cans have been found and used.
Survivor Tips:
- Teamwork! It is essential to work as a team and devise some sort of BattleStrat before the match begins. Some areas it is better to split up, some to travel as a team.
- Grab the cans closest to your spawn first. They’re essentially freebees that will jump up your total time, so take advantage of it.
- Guard the player pouring the gas! If the player is hit while pouring, the gauge will reset… not good!

Infected Tips:
- Spitters, Spitter, Spitters!!! They’re easily the most important type of Infected in this game mode. The acid will cause the player pouring to reset, will destroy dropped gas cans, and are a great support character for your allies.
- Use your spawn time to situate your team wisely on the match area.

SURVIVAL MODE
Survival Mode is another gametype you’ve seen before dressed up with a different name. If you’ve played Zombies in World at War or Firefight in ODST, then you know what to expect. If not, here’s a brief rundown to prepare you.
First, you’re going to die. This is not a game mode that you can master and beat, just improve the amount of time you stay alive for. Waves of Common, Uncommon and Infected will run at your group of Survivors until you are dead. You are given some weapons, ammo, and explosives to set on the map before the fury is brought down upon you. Be sure to use all available equipment to stand a chance…
Survivor Tips:
- If you survive for over 10 minutes, you will receive a gold medal… not quite the yippee moment you were probably hoping for, but smile and move on.
- Use your team to prepare your battle area. Use explosives in choke points and get the proper weapons.
- Station players in a situation so that one person can easily cover the blind spot of a teammate.
- Use melee weapons whenever possible and your larger weapons vs. the tougher enemies.
- Healing is difficult in this mode, so use adrenaline when possible.
- STAY ALIVE!!!

VERSUS MODE
Versus Mode is another 4v4 gametype that essentially takes levels from the game, and instead of the Survivors blasting AI out of their way to the safe-point, they’re trying to outsmart human Infected. The trick, however, is that Survivors do not respawn until the end of the round, so DON’T DIE!!! Infected players have an infinite number of respawns so they can run at the opposition as hard and as often as they like. The rounds end when either the Survivors make it to their destination, or the infected kill the four Survivors. Then another round begins and the teams switch roles. The score is tallied based on how far the Survivors make it through the level.
Survivor Tips:
- Basically, all the tricks you learned while playing the campaign will ready you for this fight.
- Watch out for areas such as ledges and combustible items. Infected will try to push you off buildings and/or blow you to pieces.
- Stick together when possible. Groups who help each other live longer.
- Be sure to use the correct weapon for the correct foe, just as you do in single player mode.
Infected Tips:
- Be sure to use the abilities of the Infected you spawn as.
- Players on this team have the advantage of respawns… use it. You randomly spawn as a different Infected, so suicide is common if the proper type is not found.
- Try to focus on pairing up, 2 and 2 , and take out one player at a time. Remember, the Survivors get zero respawns, so try not to attack a different one each time.
- Spitters and Jockeys are a great way to pair up… you may even get yourself an Achievement out of it too!
