Multiplayer General Tips and Strategies
Battlefield Bad Company 2 General Tips and Strategies Guide. Multiplayer tutorial for BFBC2.
Written By: THE RED DRAGON of BattleStrats
Intro: Menu
Welcome to my short introduction to Bad Company 2 general tips and strategies. We will begin by taking a look at the first screen you come to in the game which is the menu screen. It may seem a little silly to look at these option, and I realize that most people want to just jump into a game and shoot, but I assure you there is some very important options that you need to look at that can help improve your game. The first stop is Controls. If you are a veteran of Bad Company then you may want to look at changing your control scheme to match that of Bad Company 1. More than likely you will also want to increase your sensitivity because the default is really low and slow. Most top players in any game play with a high sensitivity to give them an advantage when turning. Although it may not seem suitable at first, it may be something that takes some time to get used to. Next is the audio - In BFBC2 there are many in-game voices which will give you a heads up on whats going on around you. I suggest you turn your audio to "Localized" on Voice and Enemy Voice. This will make it so that you can understand what the soldiers are saying in case you do not speak the language the enemy is using. Finally be sure you visit the "Video" tab to adjust the contrast and brightness so that you do not go inside a dark building and get knifed because you could not see your adversaries.
Game Modes:
Rush - Rush is a gametype that is best described as Attack and Defend style game play. 1 team starts as the attacker who is attempting to destroy 2 crates | M-com stations that the defending team is trying to protect. Once the attacker has destroyed the 2 objectives then the map is opened up further with 2 more stations added that will have to be attacked and destroyed.
Attacking - There are 3 ways to destroy the objectives. 1) You can arm the crate which will start a timer that alerts the enemy to come disarm it. 2) You can destroy the crates by using weapons against it such as rockets, c4, tanks etc. Or 3) You can destroy some of the buildings so badly that they will collapse on top of the crate which will destroy it along with killing everyone inside.
Tips: Squad up and have your teammates use a combination of all of the classes available. A good team is versatile and plays together - not for themselves. Communication is key to being successful and winning in Rush mode.
Sneak around and take paths that are less traveled. Going ninja on an uplink will work more than you ever possibly imagined. Move slow yet keep pushing. A soldier that just blindly runs down the middle of a street will be killed almost every time. Use the environment to hide yourself and your teammates to truly create a Bad Company.
Conquest - Conquest is a capture the flag gametype where your team works to capture and hold a majority of flags. Tickets decrease when someone respawns or as a team losses the majority of flags.
Tips: A good team will try and capture and hold a majority of the bases. Far too often teams capture a base and run off to try and capture them all instead of holding what they have. This ends up making the game a constant sprint and endless flag chasing. Once you capture a base, setup a defense at the flag surrounding it. You will automatically have an advantage for the person who has to come into your area to take the flag. Be sure also to spawn at your main base occasionally to grab the armor so that its not just sitting there. Many players get in a habit of spawning in on the action and leave the tanks empty at the main base.
Squad Deathmatch - A game type that pits 4 teams of 4 against one another in a team deathmatch game. The key to winning this gametype is to stick together and solid communication skills to call out enemies as they put you down. Medics are less valuable on this gametype because a person who is revived does not take away the kill for the other person (or ticket) as it does in other gametypes. Remember there is one piece of armor on the field that is up for grabs, so if you plan on going for it you will want some engineers on your team to heal the armor.
Squad Rush - A game of Rush that is on a much smaller scale and is 4v4. There is no armor so bring what you are comfortable with using. It is ticket based and medics reviving you can keep your teams ticket count high. A good rule for killing multiple enemies is to always aim for the medics first. Once you arm a crate you will want to have your team members looking at the crate from multiple angles to protect it.
Hardcore Mode Vs Regular Mode
Written By Siayn of BattleStrats:
Battlefield 2: Regular vs. Hardcore - Curious about hardcore in Battlefield Bad Company 2? Scared to poke your head in the game? Let me tell you a little bit about it, and how to best survive it.
First, what is different about hardcore?
No aiming reticle – No X on your screen to aim.
No ammo indicator – How many bullets do you have left? If your gun stops firing you are out.
No kill cam – Where did that sneaky sniper fire from? You won’t know unless you go find him.
No map – Do you hunt down red triangles on your map? Not anymore.
More damage – Explosions are bigger and bullets hurt more.
In EA’s description these features make it more realistic. It does most of this by eliminating much of the HUD in the game. If you rely on your HUD this definitely makes it harder. The thing to keep in mind though is that everyone else has the same limitations you do so you are not at a disadvantage.
I have found that hardcore favors what I call the “extremist” play-styles of Battlefield. The first extremist play style is the sniper. Because there is no kill cam, a sniper that can find a good hiding place can stay alive a long time. Many folks have already figured this out and I find a larger volume of snipers on the hardcore mode. If you find yourself in a hardcore mode with snipers, try playing an assault with the smoke grenades. Use smoke on objectives to cover you while you arm or capture objectives. Eventually if enough people on your team are using smoke the snipers will have to come out of their hiding spots to shoot at you. Also, try switching your vehicle upgrade to the one that deploys smoke. This is another way to get cover when dealing with hardcore snipers.
The second extremist plays style that works well in hardcore is the run and gun. The run and gun player usually has a SMG or shotgun and gets kills through speed and surprise. Because of the lack of a map and red triangles, I have found I can sneak around and do a great deal more damage flanking people with a run and gun tactic. If you find yourself constantly flanked by run and gun folks, this is where teamwork comes in handy. Most hardcore players assume no one can see them coming. Find a sniper or someone who has taken a defensive cover fire position on your team. A great example is a medic who is covering an objective from the second story of a house. The enemy will spot him and come in the back of the house looking for a quick undetected kill. Position yourself in a place where you can provide cover to the person and mow down anyone coming after him. I have used this successfully in both regular and hardcore modes, but found it particularly successful in hardcore.
A few more tips for hardcore should you decide to go into hardcore…
Your map is not totally lost. Spotted targets can still be seen on the main map by pressing your back button.
Vehicles blow up much quicker. Mines do much more damage. If you have been frustrated by the lack of mine lethality in regular mode, try them in hardcore. Results are guaranteed.
Get in a squad and use your mic. This is good advice for any shooter, but in hardcore it is particularly important. When you die you need to report where you died and the location of the shooter if you know it. This is the only thing that can make up for the loss of a kill cam. Aside from knifing snipers, nothing brings me more joy to call out my killer's location and hear a squad mate say “I got him” instead of "Damn, he killed all of us.”
If you find yourself running out of ammo often either play assault or do not be afraid to change kits. Pick up kits of the people you kill.
My final advice for hardcore – Use the hardcore features to your advantage. For example:
Bullet damage is already increased, so instead of having magnum ammo, try a different perk like something that improves your aiming.
Spotting doesn’t do much as a sniper, so take off the spotting scope and swap it for something more useful.
Take your time killing people on mounted guns. The lack of reticle means they are aiming at you based on visual bullet drop into the dirt.
Lately I have been spending more time on hardcore because removing visual indicators forces you to rely more on your squad. Here at Battlestrats we are big proponents of teamwork, and nothing makes a bigger difference in hardcore than communication. The lack of HUD and kill-cam make the solo artist weaker and the people who work together stronger. I have found that when the Battlestrats regulars occupy 2 or more squads in hardcore the degree of obliteration of the enemy can be even more extreme than in regular play.
I highly encourage all Bad Company 2 players to give hardcore a try. It will require you to modify your play style to be successful, but for many you will find the switch rewarding.
Good luck and see you on the Battlefield.

Update Written By Redbean:
Another important aspect of hardcore is friendly fire.....so you can't just shoot at everything, chuck grenades, and spam mortar strikes with reckless abandon...lest you kill many a teammate.
That and the lack of the floating triangles over enemy targets make it a tough adjustment for some, but to me it's the only way to play.
It may take some time to get used to, but once you play it a while when you go back to normal mode it will feel like an airsoft match.
