More fun!

Games like Homefront added new maps. But really that doesn't make a game more fun.

I guess its the feeling that the game just "exists". It doesn't really do anything that is making me wanting to come back. Im probably about 7 days of no BF3. Why should I even bother logging in? To play some conquest or rush that is the same regardless of the day or time. Yea, circumstances change by who you meet and where on the battlefield. But do strategies EVER change in BF3?

IS it about capping C and B on Caspian Border first? Or even better why worry when you cap it? You don't gain anything of importance. It is just a stupid flag they stuck at a point on the map. Much less will you even see anybody at the flag, since half the 24 players are in vehicles doing their own thing.

Maybe I am just a bitter old Endwar Vet who looks at every FPS as dropping the ball in potential.

Let me choose to play as either US or Russia as a faction.

*Let me rank up inside each army and unlock certain upgrades by focusing in said factions.
*Challenge me as a player to become more then just the standard army. Have Spec Ops/Spetnatz missions/assignments.
* Shooting assignment mini-games to unlock weapons. Pigeon shooting?
*Unlock upgrades for vehicles that are faction specific. T-90 gets better armor, Abrams gets better engine speed. etc. etc.
*Have flags not be flags. Dice does everything "realistic" except these dumb flags. Make it a capture point(uplink).
*Make that uplink upgrade able for the team. Which is extra time beyond capping it. Squad leader chooses option. To unlock that "flag's" bonus. Such as an extra tank, extra ammo, etc, etc. Probably could be more to it, but thats a basic example.

Forgot one.

Add a Chinese Faction like the PLA.

You know on your comments regarding Bad Company (and I know this is another topic but you mentioned it Mr. Offthewalls), I really think Bad Company 2 was a console game and Battlefield 3 is a PC game. I have much more fun and am much more relaxed and non-enraged playing Battlefield 3 than I ever was in Bad Company 2. The exception was (mostly) when I played squad rush, but the problem was that that's all I could tolerate playing. The "proper" game modes were like a boy wearing the shorts he's outgrown. There were always too many players, too much clusterspam, too many chokepoints, and too much random death, too much inevitable meat-grinder death, and finding a server running only say 16-20 players in those gamemodes on decent maps with proper other settings was more trouble than it was worth. In Battlefield 3, I don't even need to worry about it because all the maps fit 32 players comfortably and a ton of servers run 32 players. Some maps fit more comfortably and some maps could do with less, and there will always be servers that run more or less and take the maps that don't work out of the rotation. In fact, the maps on squad rush are actually now a little bit too BIG and the mode is less fun than it was (and it seems like much more prone to ragequitters...I did way better in BC2 SQR and yet people sucked it up and played and now the whole team will all just quit on me). So I play the proper game modes and have fun. I've uninstalled Bad Company from my computer and don't ever intend to go back to it.

If you don't find BF3 fun, no feasible amount of DLC will ever make it so. What you really need is for DICE to release mod tools and let the community take over on the PC side because every time they do a little team of mod devs will outshine DICE. See Desert Combat, Forgotten Hope, Point of Existence - all much larger in content than the base game and also much more fun in general. Project Reality is something you really have to work to enjoy but at the least it's got no shortage of content. I know y'all are gonna say that it doesn't help the console side of the equation, but seriously - what do you think would? With the size and complexity that a BF3 map needs to be, I don't see a Forge-like solution being feasible. Meanwhile, take a gander around the new Skyrim workshop and see what the community comes up with and makes available for people to use and enjoy freely. That's more crap than a developer could ever do for a single game and more than a publisher would ever be willing to justify for a free release.

All that said, I still play TF2, Company of Heroes, and Killing Floor (six-man coop zombie survival with silly voice acting, lots of fun) more than anything else. I never really expected BF3 to steal my soul, because I'd expected BC2 to, and it didn't. BC1 did, and of the three it was probably also the least serious. Yes, a console game stole my soul. Don't forget I used to be the admin of EndWarBoards, eh? The good old days where I learned the hard way that you can't please everyone, hehe.

Would love to see an editor like Far Cry 2 using BF buildings, objects and environments. I can imagine people recreating maps from previous Dice games which would be great to see...

D

This is a PC version but even the 360 editor was pretty intuitive....
