Hey guys what's going on? I am currently typing this from my new desktop computer that has a decent enough graphics card finally allowing me to play StarCraft which I bought about 6 months ago. I've been greatly intrigued by this game and have been looking for something to replace End War with as my love for RTS is something I can't get rid of. Recently I've been watching a lot of the IGN Pro Leauge tourneys just to see if I would be interested and/or capable of playing this game. Basically I was wondering if anyone still read these in this section and would be willing to try talking me through the basics of this game. From what I can tell it seems to be extrememly complex with an insane learning curve.

My initial appeal has landed me at Zerg, however, the more I observe matches and do research the more I become worried about being too overwhelmed with the simplest mechanics off the bat. If anyone still reads through these and would be willing to, if nothing else, point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Not only am I trying out a completely new game/title I am attempting to reteach myself how to use a keyboard and mouse.

Thank you for your time,
HighLife

My best advice is to play the singleplayer campaign and not to rush things when you're starting out. Starcraft II plays similarly to even the very first RTS strategy games on PC (Dune II, Command & Conquer & Warcraft). The concepts are all the same: Build a base, harvest resources, recruit troops, manufacture buildings. This all let's you build a strong army to send around the map and cause havok on your objective (Find someone, kill something and defend this).

Don't be afraid to play the first mission and restart it 20 times until you feel comfortable with the contols and what units do and how to send them places. Here's a video I found that should help you out. Good luck and feel free to post any questions you have!

Thanks Holmboy that was helpful. I also was able to scrape together some stuff from the battle.net forums and youtube in terms of hotkey walk throughs. I still haven't tried to play a game but I doubt I'll be able to until next week. 5 tests to study for with 28 credit hours really kills free time...

Look for alot of bigginer vids first then sift through and move on to more advanced as you get more comfortable.
