Modern Warfare 3 - Third verse...same as the first...and second?

My response is.....SO WHAT?
Modern Warfare has a system that works for millions of gamer's. If it didn't, it wouldn't continue to shatter sales records year after year. In order to make a great sequel, why change the formula to alter what so many people have fallen in love with?
Anyone who buys Modern Warfare 3 shouldn't be surprised when they pop in the game and find that it is indeed very similar to past Call of Duty games. I don't fault the developer for this, in fact I applaud them for giving their fans more of what they love. As a gamer, I am much more disappointed when I buy a game from a series and DON'T get what I expect.
What is appealing to many Call of Duty fans is that Modern Warfare 3 delivers non-stop action. If you die you can immediately respawn and be back into the heat of the action. Call of Duty is FAST - There is no doubt about it. Many gamer's love this arcade style fast paced game. Want to get in a couple of quick games before work? You can do that in CoD because a round can last 10 minutes and a player can still accumulate a ton of kills in this short amount of time. ACTION ACTION ACTION
One complaint that I have had in past Call of Duty games was the focus on Kills and Killstreak rewards. While there are many beastly players out there who can accumulate 7 - 12 kills on a regular basis without dying - I'm not one of those players. So in past CoD games I never felt like I was getting the full experience because the only time I ever had an opportunity to get a cool reward was if I stole a friendlies care-package :-)
Modern Warfare 3 addresses this problem by changing Killstreaks to Pointstreaks. Now you can accumulate rewards based on Kills AND doing objective based things like capturing flags. They also have implemented different "Packages" that allow you to rack up rewards based on your own needs.
For instance - If you are a beastly player that can regularly rack up several points without dying, then you can choose the Assault Package which has several deadly rewards like past CoD games.
If you are like me on the other hand and have trouble going more than 40 seconds without being raped, then you can choose the Support Package which gives you more support type rewards, which do NOT reset upon your death. I think this is a GREAT addition to the game and allows players like me to still feel like we are contributing to the team and still unlocking some cool items to use in game.
Another bonus in Modern Warfare 3 is the sheer amount of options that players have. Even if you take away the campaign and co-op modes - Multiplayer by itself gives an insane amount of options for gamer's. From the number of maps, to the number of game modes, there is variety built in to the max.
Two new game modes that I enjoy are Team Defense and Confirmed Kill. Both CAN be very strategic games if played with a team of friends.
I think it is important from a review standpoint to be able to set your personal differences aside and judge the game for what it is. I am honestly not a fan of Modern Warfare 3. This is simply because it's not the pace that I enjoy in games. For many players (Including myself) it is almost too fast. I will be the first to admit that I am not a fan of the non-stop action. I prefer a slower paced game where I can think about my next move and plan it.
It all comes down to personal preference.
Having said that - It is easy for me to see WHY Modern Warfare 3 shattered records and will be one of the most loved games this holiday season. It is the same formula that has worked for several years now and fans of the series are going to purchase this game and get exactly what they are looking for.
That's what makes a great series and a great game.

I do think you have a point, but there comes a time where you need to improve your game also. The differences between MW, MW2 and MW3 are more like a $20 DLC than a new game (like Dragon Age and Dragon Age:Origins). There is a reason we are not playing Doom XV. It was a good game and it worked, but it got old and outdated.
People throw down $15 on map packs - I bought Vietnam for BF and it included like 5 extra maps I think.
MW3 - 16 Multiplayer maps - 16 Multiplayer MODES out of the box with more to come
Campaign - 5-6 hrs
Co-op if your into that - One that is a lot deeper than BF3
The improvements that they do have I think are great - the game is balanced. Without changing what the game is I don't really see how it can be much different.
I hate to say it - I love Battlefield over Call of Duty - But CoD gives its players more for their money.
I'll still take BF over CoD any day

Just for the record MW3's Spec Ops is the best part of the whole game, next to it is the new customizable private modes.

They have added new contents here and there but the feeling you got when you played the first Call Of Duty isn't the same anymore.
The kill streak rewards are a nice part of the game. However, like you, most people can't accumulate so many points.
This new support system was pretty nice, but it doesn't have so many great rewards.
However,in preferences,I find Call Of Duty series better than Battlefield's.The reason is that,I like fast paced games and close game battles. In battlefield,it's pretty hard having that feeling in big maps.
It's 100% about a gamer's preferences.
