anyone know how long the AT mines you plant last? like do they disappear after a certain time, i know ive seen seen some after respawning but not sure if they last the whole game or what
They stay until they are destroyed or when you place more than six. When you lay six mines and lay another down your first will vanish.

I always wanted to know that myself Adam...I'm not positive. I'm pretty sure it lasts the whole match, or at least until you drop more mines later on in the map....

After reading some of these, I now use Anti-Tank mines over my trusty RPG-7. I still have to switch from time to time though...

I usually drop my six mines, charge the enemy until I get killed and then equip my Carl Gustav. Sometimes my mines will take out vehicles long after the base has fallen, that's always good for a chuckle.

I havent played Engineer since the other day, I was healing last night, but I laid down some Anti Tank Mines, and I got 2 vehicle destroys (ATV and Tank), and around 3 or 4 kills. I was like miles away from them. I love tank mines now. :Applause:

Oh yeah, it's ok. I always leave games, and since I don't have a mic, sometimes I don't send a "Cya" message to you, and I always feel bad lol.

Back on the topic of anti-tank mines, here's something that occurred to me the other day:

At the start of a round with land-based vehicles, I like to toss out as many "green pancakes of death" as I can so I'll equip the "more explosives" spec and the "improved demolitions" spec. and commence to throw mines around. After I get killed, I'll usually switch it up to a rocket launcher (if staying as an engineer) or maybe switch to assault with different specs like "more grenades" and "magnum ammo." So here's my question:

Do the perks I had equipped when I threw my mines still in effect after I die and switch kits and specs? Since I had "improved demolitions" equipped for the mines, do they keep their bigger boom characteristics after I change to "magnum ammo" for my M416?

My guess is "yes, the original specs are still in effect for those mines" but was wondering if anybody else had any insight.

I would suspect that yes, they will maintain the original specifications especially if you've switched to assault to change up your kit. Whenever I switch back to Engineer the same specs I last had are always still there, even after changing to another Kit like Assault. Excellent question! I'll have to pay more attention next time.

Question for all the expert miners in this topic:

Is it a good idea to take the explosive damage perk when your gonna be laying down some mines? Doesn't 1 mine usually take out any tank/vehicle anyway without the perk?

I usually end up taking the extra explosives along with the explosive damage perk but I was just wondering if maybe I could do without it. Thanks ahead of time.

I typically use the extra explosive damage perk when I run the engineer class because whether I use mines or a launcher the extra damage helps when destroying M-coms

I've found that sometimes a tank w/ full health doesn't blow up without any extra explosive damage (I didn't notice if the tank had extra armor or not). Whenever I'm using mines I add the extra damage perk and just use the XM8 for the gun.
*Note*: Not sure how this factors into hardcore mode, maybe I'll have to do some testing later on :)

I don't think I've ever used it, maybe at the start when it came out. It seems if a tank has the armor perk on it'll take 2 mines to blow it up. I like to place them strategically so if they do have armor on, they drive right into the 2nd mine. I love seeing the +30 Vehicle Damage appear on the screen one after the other.

I generally use the explosive upgrade for that extra added "ooomph" as well as, like RumGeoff, placing them strategically so that more than one mine goes off guaranteeing the destruction of the hapless fellow(s) who ran into them. I carry six AT mines as well and have gotten pretty decent (okay, reasonably decent) at using iron sights for whatever SMG I'm carrying. (the UMP, these days) One additional tip I don't think I've added to this thread is that it is best to put AT mines on the inside of a corner because when someone's driving a vehicle they tend to cut the corner, thus hitting my deadly green donuts of destruction. For example, at Arica Harbor at the first base I place three mines on each of the back corners of the base, just outside the interior barricades. I also try to hide them amongst all the rocks, but still keep a triangular pattern for best coverage. When the attackers come storming in with a Humvee they tend to think "Hey, we're home free, ha ha ha BOOM!" as they run over my AT mines. Then it's my turn to laugh.
