If it is true that mines disappear whenever you place more than six (and I'm afraid it is, as it is clearly the case with C4, which I have witnessed first hand), a large portion of your strategy will fail. Six mines will only last for two triangle shaped clusters.

But your idea is still great, it only needs a couple of modifications. Suppose everyone on your squad lays six mines each, before switching to other classes or to rockets. That would leave 24 mines to eat away the enemy's will to drive anything. I usually think twice about entering a vehicle after running over a mine or two.

By the way, does anyone know how many vehicle mines it would take to knock out a crate on rush?

It is also worth noting that the mining scheme could be countered by peppering the ground with bullets, though this would still mean using a machinegun to fire at something else than infantry, overheating the gun, plus reducing any element of surprise to zero.

When I first wrote this in a burst of enthusiasm I didn't realize that you could only put down six mines until someone informed me as such. (I believe I amended that at the end) Most of the time when I would play with organized squads there was usually only one other person who would lay mines. More often than not that would be enough until the other team started to catch on and sometimes they didn't. (pretty hilarious how they kept running over the things) There were some teams that were pretty good at defeating AT mines so I would hold off for a base or two and try again later having switched to rockets or a different kit altogether. The thought of everyone throwing mines down just tickles me pink though.

Initially it took twelve AT mines to take out an Mcom but since they "patched" that I'm not sure how many it is now. Sadly I've been off Xbox live for a few months and unable to play at the moment so perhaps someone else will be able to enlighten you.

I can see why they patched it. It would seem a bit strange that attackers would deploy anti-vehicle mines instead of C4 to an M-com station. Also, it would be far from fair, given the fact that those mines remain even though you get killed, while the C4 disappears when the man placing it dies (I'm pretty sure this is the case).

Also, it kind of does not make sense that people can place a stack of mines on top of each other, but that nobody can do anything to remove them without setting them off. The only explosives that you can really disarm without discharging, are the ones that take the longest time to arm.

I'm sad to hear that you're unable to access your network, that's really freaked up. I hope you'll be able to play again soon, although I'm on the Ps3 network, not Xbox.

I've used the anti-tank mine strategy before, not as much since the M-Comm damage was increased. Personally, I've always said that if you don't want someone laying mines by the M-Comm, having C-4 on the UAV, etc, etc, stop them from doing it. :wallbash:

I've just noticed that the AT mine "bug" is catching. The other night a regular squad mate who would have never put down mines started to do so while playing Conquest on the Port Valdez map. The Bravo objective was being heavily contested and the opposition was rolling in tanks left and right so our squad of three would all lay down mines. I remember quite clearly his joyful " A Ha!, got one!" as his mines were detonated. I'd say it's kind of like fishing. You have to be patient and put them in the right spots but the reward is well worth the wait.

I haven't fully tested this yet, so it could have just been a freak occurance. I was doing the usual first spawn engineer game and laying mines, I was surprised by an enemy who was a bit faster than his mates. A one-sided pistol duel erupted, him shooting at me and me charging at him with my last mine in hand. I think he shot the mine, because the next thing I know is flames. The great thing was that I had gotten close enough that the blast killed him as well and I got points for it (10 less w/ the 'suicide', but the enemy got no points and most likely a WTF expression).

Lol, many times I find myself charging an enemy only to realize my mines are still equipped and then Blammo!, I explode. It is kind of fun to catch an Engineer laying AT mines and then huck a grenade into their midst, dispatching them and the player at the same time. I guess you could call it an "Occupational Hazard".

I still love getting AT kills. People are still predictable in this game.

These may have already been mentioned but I'm too lazy to read the whole thread.

Laguna Presa defending first base. Put AT mines on the left side where they would flank in a patrol boat or jet ski. I get at least 2 or 3 vehicle destroys and kills before they wise up and then try to go a more direct route to the front. Then I put AT mines there. Works for me almost every time.

Another one we do is defending Atacama Desert first base. When the attackers leave a quad bike, jump on with a mate and drive directly into their spawn. As soon as the out of bounds message comes up start throwing your mines down. If you are quick enough and take the right route you will make it back with one second to spare. I can only wonder what goes through their heads when they run over one of my AT mines in their own spawn.

Do the same thing as above for defending Port Valdez first base.

Defending Isla Innocentes first base. I always spawn in with mines. I put two in the water near the bridge, two in the water near the crashed helicopter and two on the road up where it crests over. If we lose the first base I will already have my mines down closer to their spawn which they wouldn't be expecting and I almost always get kills. On the second base, I put 3 mines in the water on the right side near that shed.......they always come up there on the jet ski or patrol boat.

A cheezeball thing I do with AT mines is this:

Go to a patrol boat, lay 6 mines on it...run away...then when the enemy gets in it, fire a burst and KABLAM! Instant 3 kills (if 3 men in boat).

Another thing I do with boats is place those mines in shallow water and they blow up as well. Good post!
PS Can we load up a helicopter with mines in the opposing base and then burst on it as well I think??? HMMM???!
