New King of Kong - Donkey Kong Record Smashed

Many gamers are familiar with Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe from the gamer classic film King of Kong: Fist Full of Quarters. The documentary follows two gamers who battle for top score of the classic arcade game Donkey Kong. According to Twin Galaxies (TG) - the official record keeper of DK, the Donkey Kong record set by Billy Mitchell has been blown away by a newcomer, of all people.

Hank Chien, a 35 year old plastic surgeon from New York scored 1,061,700 in just two hours and thirty-five minutes to become the new King of Kong. Chien was stopped from continuing the game after he encountered the famous "Kill Screen" glitch that does not allow players to continue to play. The previous record by Billy Mitchell was 1,050,200, which had stood as the top score since 2007. Strangely enough, Chien has only played DK once before watching Fist Full of Quarters. He claims that the movie sparked an interest in him to play, and the rest is history.

Steve Wiebe has not disappeared from the DK world just yet. On Valentines Day Steve broke the Donkey Kong Jr. Record to take the top spot.

Did the film spark an interest in you to play Donkey Kong? Do you see Billy Mitchell and his mullet coming back for a new fight?
